Child Psychiatrist / Medical Director – Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders
Reports to: Vice President for Medical Affairs, Developmental Disorders Service
The Child Psychiatrist will serve the Developmental Disorders Service of Maine Behavioral Healthcare by assuming responsibility for psychiatric services in the Center For Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD) Outpatient Clinic and Day Treatment Program.
The primary focus of this position is the treatment of children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disorders, providing effective and innovative services. Secondary focus is resident and fellow teaching regarding this population, and research opportunities as interested. For qualified applicants, a Medical Director opportunity will be considered, with a focus on program development and administrative duties.
This position is located at the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders, an 8,000 square foot facility solely dedicated to treatment and research for the population, in South Portland, Maine. This full-time position will be divided between approximately three-quarters time in the outpatient clinic leading a multi-disciplinary outpatient team and quarter time in the on-site multi-disciplinary day treatment program.
The incumbent will conduct all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous, respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The incumbent is required to conduct all job responsibilities consistent with Maine Behavioral Healthcare policies and procedures and in compliance with all applicable laws or mandates relating to patient care and business activities.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Board eligible/board certified in Child Psychiatry
Experience in clinical treatment for the population is preferred.
Interest in teaching and clinical research preferred.
Licensure in the State of Maine and Maine department of education fingerprinting required prior to start date.
Must display strong interpersonal, planning, forecasting, analytical skills and maturity required to work in a team environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to adapt to frequent change and fast paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft word and Excel required
Provide psychiatric services for day treatment and out patient clinic patients.
Perform psychiatric evaluations for day treatment and outpatient clinic patients
Work with day treatment and outpatient clinic teams to develop effective, multi-disciplinary treatment plans
Model and teach treatment strategies for residents and fellows.
Attend team meetings regularly to review patient progress
Work with the VPMA to refine outpatient clinic treatment model.
Maintain medical records in accordance with MBH policy.
Make available clinical data for research purposes as needed and performs research assessments as requested
Perform clinical rating measures as part of the standard clinic/program routine (Parent rating scales, etc.)
Use of electronic medical record
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete all coursework and paperwork necessary for regulatory requirements of MBH
Answer inquiries in a timely manner
Attend professional seminars, reviews literature, and makes community presentations on the assessment and treatment of children with developmental disorders
Other duties as assigned
