The VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS), San Diego CA, is recruiting fill General Outpatient Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry position. The Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) and Psychiatry Service are located in the San Diego VA Medical Center (VAMC), a teaching hospital located adjacent to the University of California San Diego campus, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. It is a 256 bed, level 1a, tertiary care center that is dedicated to providing both primary and specialized outpatient health care, extended care, acute medical, surgical, intermediate and psychiatric care services with almost all major specialties and subspecialties represented.
The facility has 38 acute psychiatric inpatient beds and 29 substance abuse rehabilitation beds, and 40 domiciliary beds at the Aspire Center located in Old Town. Inpatient and outpatient care is available at the VAMC in La Jolla, while outpatient primary care services are available at the San Diego Mission Valley Outpatient Clinic and four other Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) located in Oceanside, Escondido, Chula Vista, and El Centro, California. The VASDHS MHCL serves veterans who reside in San Diego and Imperial Counties and provides general and specialized inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services. Inpatient treatment includes general treatment for acute psychiatric problems and a specialized program for alcohol and drug problems. The Medical Center is closely affiliated with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. In collaboration with this affiliate, the VASDHS Psychiatry Service oversees the training of psychiatry residents, fellows in psychiatry subspecialties and third- and fourth-year medical students rotating through the inpatient and outpatient settings. Attending physicians are expected to obtain and maintain UCSD faculty appointments, and may participate broadly in the teaching mission of the University. The Psychiatry Service is also committed to the advancement of knowledge and health care practices with member physicians playing a vital leadership role in basic science, clinical and health services research. The responsibilities of this position will include the provision of clinical psychiatric services for the treatment of substance use disorders.
The Addiction Psychiatrist position is primarily a clinical position that provides psychiatric and addiction clinical care to the facility. Addiction psychiatrists are generally assigned to the Alcohol Drug Treatment Program (ADTP). ADTP includes programs of outpatient care, Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, Opiate Substitution Program, Inpatient and Outpatient Detoxification Program, Substance Abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Program, consultative services, and Dual Diagnosis Program. He/She assists in the orientation to service rotation for the program's trainees (fellows, residents, interns and students) and must show effectiveness in teaching that may include monitoring and coordinating educational activities that complies with necessary trainee supervision requirements. Work Schedule: This is a Full-Time position. The work schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Weekends, holidays, and overtime work may be required to meet patient needs.
The General Outpatient Psychiatrist Staff positions works primarily in any or a combination of, the following settings: the Psychiatric Emergency Clinic (PEC), Tele-Mental health clinic, and the outpatient Mental Health Clinics at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). This is a staff psychiatrist position (board eligible or board certified) in the Psychiatry Service of the VASDHS Mental Health Care Line (MHCL). The responsibilities of this position will include the provision of clinical psychiatric services for the treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders. Work Schedule: Varies and it will be discussed during the interview process.
Salary, Compensation & Recruitment Incentives: Salary and compensation offer will be determined by a VA Physician Compensation Panel review process, and approved by Medical Center Director, based on Physician's qualifications, credentials and experience. Range of expected annual salary range will be $220,000.00 to $264,000.00 (not including any additional incentives EDRP, Recruitment and/or Relocation). Both of these Psychiatry positions are eligible to apply for Educational Loan Reimbursement Award under the provisions of the Educational Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Selected Candidates may also be considered for a Recruitment and/or Relocation Incentive.
Conditions of Employment & Required Qualifications:

Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must have Degree of Doctor of Medicine resulting in a course of education in allopathic medicine (MD) or osteopathic medicine (DO)
Must have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Must have Completed Psychiatry Residency Training and be Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) in Specialty
