ABOUT THE POSITION: The Medical Director will serve as the primary mental health officer at The Trevor Project. The Medical Director oversees clinical processes and decisions, ensuring that the organization’s direct services are best in class, based on evidence-based research and clinical best practices. By staying current on innovations and new clinical care research, they ensure that The Trevor Project is a leader in developing new approaches for helping LGBTQ youth in crisis. Reporting to the Chief Clinical Operations Officer, the Medical Director represents the organization externally through public speaking engagements as one of the world’s leading experts on LGBTQ youth suicide and mental health.
What you’ll do:
Serve as the leading mental health expert in the organization, providing mission-critical advising across all departments.
Provide clinical oversight for our crisis services programs, including on-call social workers, psychologists and other psychiatrists, weighing in on challenging day-to-day clinical questions as well as complex strategic decisions with clinical implications.
Assess current clinical practice and generate ideas for new and innovative clinical approaches for delivering our services to LGBTQ youth in crisis.
Collaborate with our research department, training team, education programs, advocacy department and our marketing/communications team by providing clinical input and expertise.
Explore ways we can further partner with the medical and mental health communities, including universities, associations, clinicians and therapists across the country.
Speak at conferences and to the press about The Trevor Project’s programs, LGBTQ youth suicide and mental health in general, establishing The Trevor Project as the foremost expert in the field.
Who you are:
A trained psychiatrist. You are a licensed psychiatrist who preferably completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry and has experience working with LGBTQ youth.
Innovative. You look at the way things are and then imagine 20 ways they can be improved. You’re always thinking about trends in healthcare and tech and how we can incorporate them.
Results-focused. You set clear timelines and drive projects to completion. You know that delivering on goals and metrics is the key to having a significant impact and growing our programs.
Camera ready. You communicate clearly and concisely. You are comfortable speaking to the press and at conferences.
