ORGANIZATION: The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will work out of a new state of the art Comprehensive Healthcare Center (CHC) located at New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC), an award-winning child welfare agency with 33 years of experience exclusively serving children with complex, chronic medical conditions and co-occurring mental health challenges and their families. NAC’s on-site CHC includes Article 31 and Article 28 clinics and delivers a range of integrated, interdisciplinary medical and mental health services. The hallmark of the agency is assuring quality, professional and strength – based services to children and families involved in the child welfare system. The organization is located in midtown Manhattan with a new satellite office in the Bronx.
RESPONSIBILITY: Provide direct psychiatric care and oversight to the clients in co-located outpatient Article 31 Mental Health clinic and Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center at NAC. The agency promotes the resiliency and success of medically fragile children, youth, and their families who are impacted by trauma, poverty, and other challenging socioeconomic circumstances through coordinated mental and medical healthcare, education, and family support services.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Mental Health Services
HOURS: Weekdays and occasional evening or weekend hours.
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments of children, adolescents and adults.
Prepare timely reports on findings of the evaluations including diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
Provide psychiatric consultation and treatment of children, adolescents and adults; including psychopharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy.
Coordinate and consult with community mental health providers for NAC clients, as needed.
Provide emergency psychiatric consultation and crisis intervention services to NAC clients in collaboration with the treatment team as needed.
Team consultation and clinical supervision, participation in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
Review and sign off on initial treatment plans and treatment plan reviews. Consult with social work and medical staff on clinical case issues in multi-disciplinary team model.
Provide supervision for other Mental Health professionals and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Requires M.D. Degree.
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Must have NYS license and DEA registration.
Experience with child welfare population preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable but not required.
Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and responsiveness in dealing with cultural and socio-economic diversity of an undeserved inner city population.
