The Behavior Health Counselor is responsible for the coordination of patient transfers, assessing behavioral health patients in the emergency rooms and medical floors, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate placement of patients according to clinical standards and guidelines. The Behavior Health Counselor serves as a clinical resource for patients seeking admission to the BHS behavioral health units, with responsibility for clinical decisions and appropriate documentation. The Behavior Health Counselor maintains working knowledge of EMTALA and other regulations governing patient transfers. The Behavior Health Counselor provides additional Intake and Triage services as appropriate, such as physician and other facilitiesreferrals. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school. Registered Nurse (RN) requires Bachelorâ��s degree. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist require Masterâ��s Degree, Doctorate in Psychology (PhD)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: At least 3 years working with mentally ill patients as a Behavior Health Counselor
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License as Registered Nurse or as a Qualified Mental HealthProfessional
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer into position.
