The Counseling Programs at James Madison University (JMU) are seeking an exceptional Counselor Educator to join the award?winning faculty in the Department of Graduate Psychology. Our programs include three CACREP?accredited programs—Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S, School Counseling M.Ed./Ed.S, and Counseling and Supervision PhD. The full?time (10 month), tenure track position will start in August, 2022, and will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will help support the Counseling Programs as JMU moves toward R2 and National University status.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching two graduate courses each semester; chairing dissertation committees (3-6 additional course credits); and scholarship and service to the department. The successful candidate will also assist in infusing culturally-relevant and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion perspectives into the existing curriculum as well as developing new learning experiences. Although the specific area of scholarly and teaching emphasis is Clinical Mental Health Counseling, preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong aptitude for scholarship and training in one or more of the following areas: advanced techniques, internship and practicum supervision, inter-professional primary and behavioral healthcare, rural mental health, or mental health and marginalized communities. Faculty research expectations are consistent with the department’s and JMU’s tenure and promotion expectations. The successful candidate will have opportunities to be involved integrally in all the Counseling Programs, as well as opportunities for professional development and leadership roles. Candidates should have experience with clinical mental health counseling practice, supervision, and teaching. The successful applicant will possess a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP?accredited program; be a Licensed Professional Counselor, with the goal of obtaining Virginia licensure; and be able to document successful teaching and supervision within a master’s or doctoral program. A strong identity as a clinical mental health counselor educator with an interest in program leadership as well as teaching and mentoring students at the master’s and doctoral level is important. Evidence of strong clinical skills, as well as the ability to teach a variety of courses at the master’s and doctoral levels, is essential.
