DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: Inpatient Behavioral Health provides care for patients with mental health disorders. The department includes two accredited psychiatric units, located in Bend. One unit, Sage View, is a separate 15 bed unit located adjacent to the hospital and the other unit, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), is a five (5) bed unit off of the emergency department. Inpatient Behavioral Health also provides consult services to the Bend Hospital campus as well as phone consult services to the St. Charles System hospital campuses.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Hospitalist - Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) responsible for providing medical services under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and direct supervision of a designated physician. APP will provide inpatient practice coverage support by working with SCMG Hospitalist physicians. All duties will be carried out according to SCMG policy and in accordance with applicable policy and regulations regarding the practice of NP/PAs under Oregon guidelines.
Work schedule: Fulltime daytime with intermittent weekend coverage as determined by the division
Call expectation: Call expectation is limited only to emergent call coverage as needed by consult only

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May perform additional duties of similar complexity within SCHS as required or assigned)
Diagnose and treat disorders within Psychiatrist's chosen specialty:
Performs comprehensive evaluation and management services with SCMG guidelines.
Performs dictations including H&Ps, progress notes and discharge summaries.
Develops concise treatment plans.
Performs daily rounds and provides patient education.
Writes orders & orders medications within EMR system.
Orders and interprets radiology studies.
Orders and interprets routine and special laboratory tests.
Ability to perform resuscitative measures in a code setting using ACLS and BLS protocols.
Uses discharge assessment tool to identify high risk, readmission patients and works closely with discharge team to prevent readmits.
Conducts daily follow-up phone calls with high risk, readmission discharged patients.
Completes documentation and verification of problem lists and medication lists for meaningful use compliance.
Completes quality improvement projects during down time.
Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective and objective findings. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
Compassionately instructs patient and family regarding medications, treatments, treatment plans and discharge plans. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
Collaborates with physicians and other caregivers to manage the acute and long-term health needs of patients.
Provides monitoring and supports continuity of care between physician visits. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
Charts tests, examination results, and other appropriate clinical data.
Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
Under physician supervision, may participate in care and management of inpatients, including medical services and specified procedures.
Potential teaching opportunities for students on Bend campuses.
Document patient care in the proper form and in a timely manner.
Promote good health and prevent illness.
Be familiar with the SCMG organization structure, communications systems and billing process, completing billing and coding documentation within time assigned by SCMG administration.
Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
Maintain active privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit performance of job duties.
Increase understanding and collaboration throughout the medical community regarding provider's chosen specialty.
Participate in SCMG provider meetings and assist in policy formation for SCMG and provider practice.

Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients/customers in a caring way. This includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose, asking the patient their preferred name, spending time with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and using skillful communications (appropriate touch, eye contact, etc.).

Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system's investigations and proceedings.
Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant course of study and certification as appropriate to the incumbent's license.
Continuing Education & Competency:
Complete annual fire/safety, etc. attend education in-services as required.
Attend mandatory educational offerings as described in SCHS policies/procedures and/or as required by other regulatory bodies.
Complete annual CME as required to maintain license and appropriate Board certification.
Complete in a timely manner assigned Computer Based Learning modules.
Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification. Nurse Practitioner requires AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB certification. If Physician Assistant, ability to establish and maintain a Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB.
Unrestricted Federal DEA number.
Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
Valid driver's license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
Current BLS certification required.
If provider will practice sedation, moderate or deep, ACLS certification is also required.
Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted to provider by Medical Staff Services at SCHS Inpatient locations.
Two years' experience as an Advance Practice Provider
Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System
Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results
Experience in hospital and outpatient practice environments in Psychiatry
