As a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner 2, you will provide safe and therapeutic care in holistic and systemic way, to include the assessment and overall management of care for critically ill patients, under the supervision of an MD. To help achieve our mission, you will exercise independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for Nurse Practitioners. Your ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others is of vital importance. Ensuring that improvements in practice settings transpire by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning is expected. Providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource and mentor is required.
Performs and documents comprehensive physical and psychological exams of patients to identify priority care needs.
Develops differential diagnosis/plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Orders appropriate tests, treatments, medications (if appropriate) and consults.
Demonstrates effective communication skills and assists in the resolution of conflict among healthcare team members, patients and families.
Collaborates with and incorporates the expertise of the interdisciplinary team to achieve patient outcomes.
Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations while integrating evidence based research findings into clinical practice.
Participates in protocol development to modify practice based on scientific evidence. Maintains data integrity and compliance with data requirements in the professional society benchmarking system.
Recognizes behaviors that impact team functionality while implementing strategies to optimize teamwork. Serves as a mentor for team members and facilitates the understanding of the role of the Nurse Practitioner for other healthcare providers.
Provides formal and informal education to members of the healthcare team on an ongoing basis.
