Opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team, working with male and female veterans who are participating in recovery-oriented residential treatment of chemical dependencies and/or PTSD. As a member of a collegial psychiatric team, you are supported in providing the highest quality care to patients and medical education to medical students and residents. The residential setting is a safe, comfortable, drug-free therapeutic environment staffed by friendly and dedicated team members.
The program collaborates with training programs in psychology, social work and nursing and there is the opportunity for Faculty appointment at Stanford University School of Medicine Dept of Psychiatry. Specialty or additional training in addiction is desired but not required depending on experience and/or interest.
The VAPAHCS is a flagship tertiary care VA facility. It is a teaching hospital with an affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine which provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians and psychologists in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. Our Health Care System operates over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and three residential programs—all to serve more than 67,000 enrolled Veterans.
Acts as Attending Psychiatrist for Veterans admitted to the Domiciliary. Performs psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments, and ongoing pharmacological management of all veterans in the Domiciliary for psychiatric and SUD related illnesses.
Responsible for compliance with documentation and provision of care in accordance with the VA Palo Alto Physician Bylaws. Responsible for evaluation of patients in residential, outpatient, inpatient, and other medical inpatient and emergency room settings.
Acts as supervisor for trainees, including medical students and residents. Provides didactic trainings as appropriate.
Actively collaborates with co-Attending Psychiatrists to ensure safe and comprehensive continuity of care.
Provides consultation and acts as liaison with nursing staff regarding any appropriate medically supervised withdrawal for Veterans entering the Domiciliary.
Demonstrates skills in working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team and be able to provide specialty consultative knowledge and liaison regarding evidence-based case conceptualizations of psychiatric and SUD related and behavioral issues and collaborates on complex conceptualizations and challenging presentations.
Provides advanced client de-escalation, behavioral intervention and motivational enhancement to increase programmatic completion.
Provides training to program staff and other health care providers, as needed.
Consults with ACT, medicine, inpatient, RRTPs and referrals for advanced case management, pharmacological withdrawal related issues, including expertise regarding psychiatric or medical stabilization and communication with infection control, ER, inpatient team, etc.
Salary
$288,204 - $306,600 per year
Recruitment or Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Position eligible EDRP Authorized: Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
