Position Summary/Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full time psychiatrist to serve as the Medical Director of new UNC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Facility to be opened in Butner, NC in summer 2023. This will be a full-time, fixed term (clinical) position. The rank will be based on the qualifications of the applicant. The assigned duties will be at the new CAP facility in Butner, NC which is a new 54 bed inpatient psychiatric facility focused on treating children and adolescents. There will be four separate inpatient units at this facility. The Medical Director will be part of the UNC Department of Psychiatry Faculty in the UNC School of Medicine.

Responsibilities include:

1. Clinical Care (50%): The expectation for this position is that the Medical Director will be able to devote about 50% of a full time FTE to providing direct clinical care. This may take the form of providing coverage to all units when a faculty member is out on vacation. There will be a total of 7 full time psychiatrists at this new facility in addition to the other mental health professionals involved in patient care. . In addition, the Medical Director will provide second opinions for difficult cases on an ongoing basis throughout the campus. The Medical Director will also be part of the required call rotation. The Medical Director also may choose to seek off campus part time clinical activities as part of this time.
2. Community representation (10%): The UNC CAP Facility medical director will be expected to represent the campus in multiple settings and to a variety of constituents. This may include community meetings and with other stakeholders at the local and state level.
3. Supervision of faculty (15%): The medical director is expected to meet with UNC Department of Psychiatry faculty working at the UNC CAP facility on a regular basis and provide support and career guidance, especially for junior faculty. This may take the form of clinical supervision, joint activities in scholarly pursuits, or other mutually agreed upon activities. This is designed to provide both early career support and an opportunity to make sure junior faculty have the opportunity to move into future leadership positions. In addition, the medical director will be an active participant in any personnel matters that may occur with UNG School of Medicine faculty.
4. Involvement in Leadership (10%): The Medical Director will work with the UNC Department of Psychiatry leadership and the UNC Health leadership to review ongoing clinical activities and make recommendations for possible improvements/changes. In addition, this position will provide recommendations on budgetary management. The expectation is that the Medical Director is available and can be reached at all times if there are urgent clinical matters that cannot wait until the next business day. The Medical Director will also supervise and manage the clinical leadership team at the UNC CAP facility.
5. Scholarship activities/QI/Program development (15%): The Medical Director is expected to be a clinical leader and help to push the knowledge base in the provision of clinical care. This may take the form of novel initiatives in program development, encouraging outside clinicians/researchers to be involved in the care at UNC CAP facility, collaborations with outside agencies, obtaining grants, and/or publishing papers that are generated from the work done at the UNC CAP facility. The expectation is that the work should then be presented at local, regional and national meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must have an MD or DO, be BC/BE, and be eligible for North Carolina licensure.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Qualified candidates should have senior administrative experience leading both physician, non- physician clinicians and support staff and leadership experience working with multiple stakeholders in healthcare delivery. Qualified candidates should also have broad clinical experience, business management experience, experience working across and integrating multiple healthcare disciplines and experience in policy development. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in an academic healthcare setting and concrete evidence of innovative healthcare delivery.
