JOB SUMMARY
The Research Investigator 2 is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and supervising research project staff in research projects as required by department and specific medical research project protocols, under the direction of a Principal Investigator and Administrative Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Plans and organizes research projects and established procedures that have sufficient merit to be supported by internal and external funding sources. Recommends new areas of research that supports the goals and objectives of the department and other internal and external stakeholders. Addresses the needs and requirements of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Research Administration. Analyzes, interprets, compiles and reports project results to the PI.
Provides technical knowledge to project research staff to ensure completion of assignments. Maintains appropriate documentation for tests and research as specified by department and specific research project protocols.
Reviews project quality control, instrument maintenance, and monitors any associated corrective action. Ensures safety procedures and research protocols are adhered to by staff as required by the department and established research project protocols. Reports problems with project staff, support services and affiliates to the Research Administration.
Defines problems and possible solutions as dictated by research projects and protocols. Develops and modifies equipment and computer software applications to accomplish project goals.
Creates publications as required by the department and specific research project protocols. Reviews appropriate and relevant scientific literature on a regular basis.
Performs laboratory office and administrative duties as needed. Assists Research Administration, as necessary, in the design of laboratory facilities and the acquisition of equipment and supplies in support of new or existing services and needs. Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment as required by department and internal policies and procedures.
Mentors medical research training in the residency program. Participates in Inservice classes.
Fulfills continuing education and certification requirements to maintain required qualifications. Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements, and provides necessary documentation on such requirements. Remains current with relevant trends and innovations by participating in external professional associations and seminars as needed.
Attends classes for continuing education of current issues related to area of responsibility. Researches documentation to gain knowledge and remain current in area of responsibility.
Maintains membership on editorial boards or peer review committees.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Five years experience in research post-doctorate required.
Principal Investigator on an externally funded grant required.
Requires at least one publication in a peer-reviewed scientific or medical journal per year of research experience required.
