The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine invites applications for an experienced board-certified/board-eligible Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director of our Behavioral Health Inpatient unit at Duke Regional Hospital and provide clinical service in the acute care setting. We are seeking individuals who are interested in working with a growing team of clinicians, researchers, and educators with the goal of enhancing the range and scope of clinical services in an academic health system. This position is a faculty appointment with rank commensurate with the applicants experience.   

Medical Director responsibilities include provision of clinical oversight, operational management, support for education initiatives, and program planning for our 42-bed psychiatric acute crisis stabilization unit. The physician selected for this position will have demonstrated dedication to clinical care and have a minimum of three or more years of clinical practice experience post-training. They will value mentorship, professionalism, education and improving quality outcomes in the clinical setting. Prior clinical leadership experience is preferred. This position reports to the Behavioral Health Clinical Service Unit Director.  Duke is a matrix environment where successful leadership requires collaboration with leads of other disciplines. Clinical responsibilities for this faculty position will include participating in individual and team-based clinical activities focused on adults with a range of psychiatric disorders. The role requires successful management of interdisciplinary teams and a commitment to the education and supervision of students and residents. Depending on the interests and expertise of the applicant, clinical responsibilities may include inpatient psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and emergency psychiatry.
