Adult PsychiatristsAdult Inpatient Psychiatric serves acute and chronically mentally ill patients by providing high quality psychiatric clinical and therapeutic care. The unit specializes in administering care to adult patients who display challenging behaviors and/or who may have comorbid medical diagnoses that cannot be accommodated by other mental health facilities in Colorado. The adult unit comprises 57 beds over a span of 3 units. The multiple units allow for the development of a diverse set of nursing and therapeutic skills including de-escalation techniques, therapeutic awareness and communication. Staffing ratios include a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 and behavioral health tech ration of 1:7. These ratios create safe, dignified, individualized patient care. Job Summary
Provides general addiction and psychiatric care throughout Denver Health Hospital, which includes general medical floors, intensive care units, Ob/Gyn, pediatric unit, psychiatric units, and child & adolescent psychiatric unit. Diagnose and treat children and adults, including patients with complex and co-occurring medical, psychiatric and substance use disorders. Provides expert assessment and clinical care in one or more of these areas and provides teaching and scholarly work in their area of expertise. The majority of patients seen will have an substance usedisorder (80%), and some will have a co-occurring psychiatric disorder (20%). The physician will have responsibility for clinical education of various trainees and will enjoy the benefits of a hospitalist flex schedule.
Essential Functions:
Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses, implements and directs effective addiction and psychiatric treatments including during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions including during pregnancy and peri-partum periods. Consults with medical providers in the care of patients with psychiatric and substance use disorder . (70%)
Assesses and mitigates the risk of suicide or violence among patients at risk due to psychiatric illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar, depressive, anxiety, substance use disorders, and personality disorders. (10%)
Teaches medical students and advanced trainees from other health disciplines including in nationally accredited training programs. (10%)
Applies treatment statutes for involuntary psychiatric and/or substance use disorder treatments. Interprets the results of relevant laboratory and imagining studies and applies them to the diagnosis and treatment of addiction and psychiatric symptoms. (10%)
Education:
Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required
Licenses:
MD or DO-Physician - State Medical Board Required and
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Preferred, but Not Required

1. Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
2. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
3. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
