Florida Palms Academy is a Statewide Inpatient Psychiatric Program (SIPP) located in Hollywood, Florida (Broward County) . This program is specifically designed for elementary and middle school aged children and adolescents (6-14) who can benefit from psychiatric residential treatment. This intensive program currently limits admission to 38 children and provides both an individualized-educational curriculum coupled with a therapeutic environment. Our treatment center’s average length of stay is approximately 6 months.
Florida Palms Academy encourages clients to explore their emotional issues, under close clinical supervision, while providing a superior academic environment. Florida Palms Academy has gathered a team of professional and support staff who are experts in their fields and deeply committed to the care and treatment of children and their families. Our team includes educators, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, counselors, direct care staff and support staff, all of whom are experienced in their disciplines.
Board Certification in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Florida
Valid DEA License
Preferred: Inpatient Mental Health Experience
Medicaid Provider ID and National Provider Identifier (NPI)
Minimum of 3 years’ experience diagnosing and treating serious emotional disturbances in children and adolescents
Experience providing services to patients with severe mental illnesses
Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Services
Provide comprehensive psychiatric and medical services, including:
Psychiatric evaluations and assessments
Medication consultation, prescription, and weekly follow-up
Participation in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
Routine case review and clinical documentation
Referral to external providers or emergency services as needed
Monitor and manage side effects of psychotropic medications
Write and manage prescriptions, both electronically and on paper as required
Document psychiatric progress notes, detailing rationale for medications prescribed or discontinued
Order, review, and follow up on laboratory tests as clinically indicated
Educate children, parents, and/or caregivers on the indications, usage, and side effects of prescribed medications
Provide verbal medication orders to the Nurse Manager or designee when necessary
Documentation & Compliance
Review, approve, and sign:
Individualized treatment plans
All required clinical documentation, forms, and compliance paperwork
Ensure strict adherence to Medicaid regulations, policies, and billing guidelines
Team Collaboration & Leadership
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (clinical, nursing, educational, case management) in delivering integrated psychiatric care
Provide on-call support via telephone, as scheduled
Serve as a clinical leader to support effective, evidence-based care practices
Promote and ensure compliance with clinical practice guidelines
Foster a collaborative team environment committed to improving patient outcomes

Florida Palms Academy is a regional community-based residential treatment facility which focuses on the deinstitutionalization of emotionally disturbed children.
Located in Hollywood Florida, Florida Palms Academy is an inpatient, psychiatric treatment program for Elementary and Middle school students; from ages 6-14 years old. Currently limited to 38 patients, Florida Palms Academy is designed to therapeutically assist children in working through issues that have led to their current emotional and behavioral condition while in a safe and secure environment.
Our goal is to return children to a less restrictive environment to continue their progress through intensive in?home services with their families. Florida Palms Academy encourages students to explore their emotional issues, under close clinical supervision, while providing a superior academic environment. ?The estimated length of stay may vary based on the specific needs of the children; however the typical length of stay is 4-6 ...months. Florida Palms Academy is not a long term treatment program.
