The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and UK Golisano Children’s Hospital at UK is seeking a residency-trained, board certified/board eligible Child Psychiatrist to join our team in Lexington, KY. We employ physicians, psychologists, therapists and other mental health professionals to provide a wide variety of behavioral health and substance use treatment services at multiple locations. Our clinicians provide care at our UK Psychiatric & Behavioral Health Care Clinic at Fountain Court, Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Eastern State Hospital, and various other clinics and departments throughout the UK HealthCare system and other partner organizations throughout Kentucky. We strive to provide the highest level of patient care, innovative educational programs, active research in mental illness and advocacy throughout the state of Kentucky and beyond. These pursuits have helped the department win the American College of Psychiatrists’ Award for Creativity in Psychiatric Education not once, but twice.
Job Details
This position will primarily provide inpatient psychiatric care to children and adolescents and will participate in on-call coverage of our Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit and related inpatient services.
Our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Health programs offer an array of specialized pediatric programs, including the Child Diagnostic Clinical Service, Eating Disorders Clinical Service, and Functional Family Therapy. Our inpatient unit is the only facility in the Bluegrass region that has patient safety companions on the unit at all times. In October 2025, entrepreneur and philanthropist B. Thomas Golisano announced a $50 million gift to UK and Kentucky Children’s Hospital. This is the largest gift in UK HealthCare history and the second largest gift to UK. Our children’s hospital also joins the Golisano Children’s Alliance, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between children’s hospitals bearing the Golisano name. Qualifications
- MD/DO degree
- Completion of residency in Psychiatry
- Knowledge of psychiatric practices in a variety of clinical, teaching, and research environments, as well as a demonstrated ability in teaching students at all levels in an academic environment.
- Board eligible/board certified in Child & Adolescent and/or Adult Psychiatry by the American Psychiatric Association
- Current licensure, or eligibility to obtain licensure, to practice medicine in the state of Kentucky.
- Strong clinical skills with a patient-centered approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
